A committee of the Ministry of Ecological Transition of Italy published a statement this Friday (10) in which it estimates the end of production of combustion cars in the country in 2035 for private vehicles. “Light commercial transport vehicles and vans” of this type should stop being produced in 2040.
The document highlights that the deadlines were defined in a meeting between the minister of Ecological Transition, Roberto Cingolani, of Economic Development, Giancarlo Giorgetti, and of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility, Enrico Giovannini.
“In this way, it is necessary to put into practice all functional solutions for the decarbonization of transport in a logic of 'technological neutrality' therefore valuing not only electric vehicles, but also hydrogen potential and also recognizing the essential role of biofuels, for which Italy is building a cutting-edge national supply chain”, the text also says.
The three ministers also highlighted that “some specific measures can be evaluated” for producers in the sector that are in line with the decisions of the European Commission within the “scope of community rules”. (Handle)
