The city of Pesaro, on Italy's Adriatic coast, will unveil a life-size bronze sculpture of the Italian tenor on April 27. Luciano Pavarotti (1935-2007).
The tribute in the Italian Capital of Culture was made by master Albano Poli and will be located in Piazzale Lazzarini, a few steps from the Rossini Theater, at the intersection with Via Curiel.
“It is a gift for the city, but above all a tribute to Luciano Pavarotti, an extraordinary artist who has never been forgotten, honorary citizen of Pesaro”, explained the mayor of Pesaro, Matteo Ricci, and his deputy, Daniele Vimini.
According to the politicians, Pavarotti's sculpture will be placed in a space in which “it can greet and welcome with its presence the people of Pesaro and visitors who arrive from Via Blanca and enter the square, almost as if inviting them to the theater.” .
The Italian city had already anticipated its intention to pay homage to “an extraordinary artist never forgotten and much loved by the people of Pesaro”, proud to be able to show those arriving in the city, walking on the sand of the Pavarotti lido, the village that the tenor chose as a retreat on the green cliff of San Bartolo Park overlooking the Adriatic.
The announcement was made in August 2022, at the end of the ceremony to affix the Italian tenor's star to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which was attended by a delegation from Pesaro, and then in October 2023.
The bronze statue will be placed in a way to allow everyone to take a photograph of themselves close to the maestro, with the Rossini Theater behind them. The opening ceremony will take place at 19pm (local time) next Saturday.
Pavarotti is considered one of the legends of music and died on September 6, 2007, at the age of 71, from pancreatic cancer. Throughout his career, he performed in Brazil seven times, the first in 1979 at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro, and the last in 2000 at the Morumbi stadium in São Paulo.HANDLE)
