Nova Veneza, in southern Santa Catarina, began setting up the decorations this week for the 20th Festival of Typical Italian GastronomyThe event takes place between June 18th and 21st and is expected to attract more than 150 visitors to the municipality.
Recognized as the most Italian city in the state, the town is experiencing an edition of even greater significance this year. The festival coincides with the celebration of 135 years of Italian immigration in the city.
Flags, masks, and elements reminiscent of Italian immigrants are already beginning to transform the urban landscape. The organization considers the event the main one in the municipality and one of the most traditional in the region.
The four-day program will feature cultural attractions, national shows, traditional cuisine, and activities that celebrate the heritage of immigrants.
According to Mayor Ângela Ghislandi, the expectation is to repeat and even surpass the audience numbers of recent years. “The expectation for the 20th Typical Italian Gastronomy Festival is very high. In a historic edition, in which Nova Veneza also celebrates 135 years of Italian immigration, the organizers project a large participation of visitors from all over Santa Catarina and neighboring states. The entire program has been planned to provide a special experience,” she stated.
Themed decorations in various parts of the city.
The decorations will be installed in various locations throughout the municipality, according to the Secretary of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Izabelle Amboni Destro. These locations include Humberto Bortoluzzi Square, Rua Coberta (Covered Street), Rua dos Imigrantes (Immigrants Street), Rua Nicolau Pederneiras (Nicolau Pederneiras Street), Travessa Osvaldo Búrigo (Osvaldo Búrigo Alley), Rua Cônego Miguel Giacca (Cônego Miguel Giacca Street), the Entrance Gate, and the Festival Pavilion.
The districts of Caravaggio and São Bento Baixo will also receive themed flags and banners at their entrance gates. The aim is to reinforce Italian identity and create a festive atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.
"Flags in the colors of the municipality and Italy will be displayed, along with masks and elements that evoke our ancestors," the secretary highlighted.
In addition to marking two decades of the festival's history, this year's edition seeks to celebrate the journey of the families who helped build Nova Veneza. The goal is to preserve traditions present in the local culture, architecture, and gastronomy. (With information from NSC Total)
