The award annually recognizes individuals of Italian descent living in Brazil who have distinguished themselves in their fields, bringing the two countries closer together.
Costanza Pascolato was born in Siena in 1939 and has lived in São Paulo since 1945. A columnist for Vogue Brazil for over twenty years, she has worked in journalism since the 1970s and has authored books such as “O Essencial” (1999), “Confidencial” (2009), and “A elegante do agora” (2019).
Her work also includes style consulting for television series and curating exhibitions that combine art and clothing. She has over 800 followers on social media. In 2008, she received the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity, with the rank of Commander.
Rubens Ricupero was born in São Paulo in 1937, the son of Italian immigrants from the Brás neighborhood. A law graduate, he built one of the most distinguished careers in Brazilian diplomacy.
He served as ambassador to Italy, Geneva, the United States, and Iran, and as an advisor to Tancredo Neves and President José Sarney. As Minister of Finance, he oversaw the launch of the Real Plan in July 1994.
Internationally, he chaired the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva and served as Under-Secretary-General of the UN. Italy awarded him the... Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, in the rank of Grand Officer.

“We have such a large, hardworking Italian community that has contributed fundamentally to the development of Brazil in the political, cultural, and economic fields, that we are always amazed. But this year, I think the choice was relatively easy,” the consul stated.
Who was Ciccillo Matarazzo?
The award is named after Ciccillo Matarazzo, grandson of Count Francesco Matarazzo, an Italian immigrant who arrived in Brazil in 1882. An industrialist and patron of the arts, he founded institutions such as the MAC (Museum of Contemporary Art), the MAM (Museum of Modern Art), the São Paulo Biennial Foundation, the Vera Cruz production company, and the Brazilian Comedy Theatre.
Ciccillo also chaired the commission for the 4th Centenary of the city of São Paulo, responsible for conceiving Ibirapuera Park. The first edition of the tribute took place in 2024, the year of... 150th anniversary of Italian immigration to Brazil.
