The President of the Portuguese Republic, António José Seguro, and the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, called for the return of emigrants and Portuguese descendants to the country, during a ceremony with the Portuguese community. in Luxembourg last Saturday (7th).
The event marked the start of the celebrations for Portugal Day, Camões Day and Portuguese Communities Day, celebrated on June 10th. It was the first time the date was commemorated in Luxembourg and also the first time Seguro and Montenegro celebrated it together.
“Portugal needs all of you, and we count on you a lot for our future,” said Montenegro, who highlighted the country's development potential and mentioned the return “that we hope many can have to Portugal.”
Seguro was more direct in stating that Portugal "It is a country that wants to welcome back its own." According to the head of state, this includes "those who emigrated and those who were born abroad, but who feel Portugal as a part of themselves."
Work and the Portuguese language
