Immigration Museum creates exhibition about Italian grandparents

Exhibition portrays the beginning of the life of Italians in Brazilian lands

Italian grandfathers and grandmothers who arrived in Brazil in the 1950s and 1960s are being portrayed in a temporary exhibition at Immigration Museum Sao Paulo.

"Nonni di São Paulo”, as it was named, the exhibition brings together 50 testimonies from immigrants, all between 70 and 90 years old.

Opened last Saturday (05), the exhibition portrays the beginning of their lives in Brazilian lands, as well as their achievements.

Testimonies about Italian grandparents were collected by the Italian Oliviero Pluviano, Genoese journalist based in Brazil.

Initially, the exhibition would be launched in March this year, but had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The characters

Among the characters, visitors can meet Lisena Montanaro, one of the “Mothers of Saint Vitus”, who embarked for Brazil in 1955, two days after turning 18.

Bruna and Giorgio Maschietto, both originally from Veneto, and who arrived in Brazilian territory in 1955 and 1953, respectively, were also portrayed.
