Number of Italians in Brazil increases 151% in 11 years. Young people represent a large part of the Italians who left the country.
More than 107 people left Italy to live abroad last year, according to the study “Italians in the World 2016”, carried out by Migrants Foundation. The number showed that 39.410 Italians who left the country were young people between 18 and 34 years old.
In total, as of December 31, 2015, just over 4,8 million Italians were registered in other countries, an increase of 3,7% compared to the previous year. Another interesting fact is that, between 2006 and 2016, mobility among Italians increased by 54,9%.
The report points out that the increase in absolute values reached all continents and all countries, especially those that are home to the most numerous Italian communities, such as Argentina, Germany and Switzerland. However, the most significant variations in the last 11 years affected Spain, which registered an increase of 155,2%, and Brazil, with a 151,2% increase in the number of Italian residents.
The survey also showed that more than half of citizens living abroad are in other European countries (53,8%), while 40,6% seek the Americas. Already 50,8% of Italians leaving Italy come from cities in the south of the country and 48,1% are women. (by ANSA)
