Italy was the scene of more than 15,1 foreign marriages in 2024, an increase of 11,4% compared to 2023.
The numbers for so-called “destination weddings” in the Belpaese remained impressive last year, with 960 people involved in organizing the ceremonies, an increase in the average number of guests, which exceeded 100 individuals, and overnight stays exceeding 4 million.
Data from the Destination Wedding Italia initiative, organised by the Convention Bureau Italia and Italy for Weddings, also reveals that the majority of weddings took place in the centre of the country (31,1%), but interest in the southern regions and the islands, particularly Sicily, has increased (29,3%).
Italian culture, history and beauty are among the reasons why couples choose the country when they say “I do”. “It is a sector that creates jobs and promotes our splendid regions,” said Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè.
According to Carlotta Ferrari, president of Convention Bureau Italia, “destination weddings are on the rise” and are placing the country “as a global reference”. “There is a desire among foreigners to organize unique weddings thanks to the attraction exerted by Made in Italy and local products”, she explained.
