Governor Ratinho Junior sanctioned State Law 20.757, which makes the municipality of Colombo the Capital of Talian in Paraná.
The recognition was proposed by the state deputy Maria Victoria Barros and was approved by the Legislative Assembly of Paraná (ALEP).
Talian is a dialect of Italian origin, especially from the regions of Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, Friuli-Venezia Giulia e Piedmont, Emilia Romagna and Lombardy e Liguria, and who came to Colombo along with the first Italian immigrants, at the end of the 19th century.
Talian is spoken in some regions of the Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Mato Grosso e Espírito Santo.
In Colombo, actions for the recognition and preservation of Talian were led by enthusiasts Diego Gabardo, Fábio Luiz Machioski, Maristela Cavassin Reginato and Marta Cavalli Cavassin, and articulated by Italian Father Alberto Casavecchia Association, Veneti in Mondo – Colombo and Cristoforo Colombo Municipal Museum, with the support of the parishes N. Sra. do Rosário and N. Sra. da Saúde of Colônia Faria.
The recognition process also included the collaboration of Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritagel (IPHAN) and researchers from Center for Veneto Studies in Paraná (CEVEP), which brings together leaders from holy happiness, traditional Italian neighborhood of Curitiba.
Talian is spoken by around half a million people, mainly in the south of the country, and there is even a dictionary with more than 40 thousand entries – created by the professor Darcy Luzzatto.
