The farewell was announced on Tuesday night (2), during the celebration of 80 years of the Italian RepublicThe event took place in Jardim Nacional, on Avenida Paulista. It brought together authorities, community representatives, and guests.
In an emotional tone, the consul acknowledged that the ceremony had personal significance as it was the last major event of his tenure. “I am saying goodbye to this enormous community. This is the last major event we will organize here and, naturally, I will cry a little,” he told the Ansa news agency. “My heart is already filled with longing.”
When asked what he would leave to his successor, Fornara emphasized the importance of collective work and his desire for relations between Italy and São Paulo to continue strengthening.
“Each of us has our own constructive capacity to add something new. So I hope that my successor will be able to do better than I did and continue the work done so far,” he declared.
The name of the person who will assume the position has not yet been announced.
