Italy is growing old. According to data presented by Istat in the “Population Census and Demographic Dynamics – 2020”, released this Thursday (9) Italy is a country in which there is no demographic growth, in fact the exact opposite happens.
In 2020, also because of the Covid 19, which accentuated the tendency to recession that has been going on for years, a new minimum birth registration.
There is talk of only 405 thousand newborns against 740 thousand deaths. The deficit is 335 thousand units less.
Since the unification of Italy, it is the first time the number has reached such alarming numbers, not counting the record of 1918 when the deficit was 648 thousand units due to the “Spanish” epidemic and the high number of deaths.

Istat, Italy is aging
According to Istat data, the Italian population fell by 0,7 percent and has 59 million citizens.
