Actress buys house for €1 in Italy and makes surprising renovation

Lorraine Bracco, from “The Sopranos”, turns renovation into reality show

Have you ever imagined buying a house for just one euro? That's exactly what the American actress Lorraine Bracco, from "Soprano Family", he did.

The star revealed, this week, that she renovated the entire 200-year-old property, and that everything the process can be seen by the public on a reality show, starring her.

The acquisition of the house, in the region of Sicilia, the Italy, was around R$ 6,20, at the current price.

The program will be called “My Big Italian Adventure” (“My Big Italian Adventure”, in Portuguese) and will be released on October 30th on the North American broadcaster HGTV.

However, some “before and after” photos have already been released and the actress provided several details about the purchase and, of course, the change.

In recent years, several small towns in Italy have started selling houses that had been vacant for a long time for just one euro and without much bureaucracy with the aim of repopulating rural communities and medieval villages.

One of the government's only requirements, however, is that century-old houses be renovated within a maximum of three years, ensuring that buyers have the real intention of staying there.

The idea is intriguing, but the renovation certainly causes expenses to exceed six reais, especially in Lorraine's case.

According to “People” magazine, the land, measuring almost 100 square meters, was falling apart, with walls, floor and ceiling deteriorating.

It also had no electricity, running water, kitchen or bathrooms.

In addition to fixing all the problems, the 65-year-old actress revealed that she wanted an entry level, a large bedroom with a view and an idyllic patio.

Will it happen? Take a look at some “before” and “after” images:

“I believe life is an adventure. When I saw the news that you could buy houses there for 1 euro, I jumped in head first. I took a plane. I bought the house. I'm really excited to be here, meet and work with locals and live close to them. I'm also here as a tribute to my family, who comes from Sicily”, celebrated the actress, whose father, Salvatore Bracco, is of Italian descent.

The star, nominated for an Oscar for Supporting Actress for “Goodfellas”, had the help of local builders and architects, and even a translator.

“I don't work in construction, I'm not a decorator, I'm an actress. I've never done this before. I have no idea what I'm getting myself into. It's a lot of work, but I believe anything is possible. And, for one euro, let’s see what happens”, she pondered about the house in Sambuca, a city of seven thousand inhabitants on top of a hill.

The “Daily Mail” and “People” have already revealed some images of the result and we are shocked by the difference.

Even with the changes and renovations, the actress tried and managed to maintain the rustic and classic charm of the place.

Now we wait for the launch of the reality show to find out how she managed to make this transformation.
