Italy already celebrates Carnival with various events, parades, processions and costume balls across the country. However, the festivities also attract attention for their gastronomy, mainly for the typical sweets sold in bakeries during the celebrations.

Until the beginning of March, from big cities to small towns, fun is guaranteed for those who hide behind a mask. Furthermore, many people take the opportunity to eat some sweets before fasting during Lent.

Among the main ingredients of typical sweets of Italian carnival, there is boiling oil, a generous pinch of powdered sugar and an intense citrus flavor, which attract the public to the country's confectioneries.

One of the main sweets are fried tagliatelle from the region of Emilia Romagna and Lombardy, in northern Italy. Accompanied by some grated orange zest, the dough is fried, rolled and sprinkled with powdered sugar.
