With an eye on the approximately 70 million descendants living abroad, 2023 will be the “Year of Tourism in Ritorno. Alla Scoperta delle Origini", in Italy.
The idea behind the project – created by Southern Destination Network, a network of companies made up of tour operators – is to relaunch Italy's image and promote the country by attracting tourists and investments, encouraging exports, business meetings and creating stable collaborations between compatriots.
The objective is to create a International expo of italianity. A great event in which each participating region and city, in synergy with companies, will be able to showcase their cultural, productive, gastronomic and tourist excellence.
“Grassroots tourism represents an integrated strategy for the recovery of the sector and is a lever that, through the promotion of regional traditions, our excellence, villages and areas of origin of emigration, makes it possible to unite compatriots living abroad”, says Valentina Corrado, advisor to the Tourism department, in the Lazio Region.
The regions that have already joined the project are: Calabria, Molise, Abruzzo, Brands, campania e Lazio. Veneto, the region that sent the most Italians to the world, has not yet joined the program.

Next Tuesday (02), the Circolo Italiano de São Paulo will hold a project launch event in Brazil.
The event "2023 Year of Tourism in Ritorno. Alla Scoperta delle Origini" (“2023 Year of Return Tourism. Discovering the origins”, in free translation), in the capital of São Paulo, will feature the presence of Michelangelo Lurgi, president of the international promoting committee and creator from the project.
