Accustomed to the traditional oxtail accompanied by a (or several) dose of cachaça, the former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed his dissatisfaction with the food Italian, criticizing the small portions and excessive sophistication of the dishes.

During a weekly live broadcast, Squid shared his impressions of the food served during official events in Italy, expressing his disappointment regarding the meals offered.

He highlighted the lack of abundance and inferiority compared to Brazilian dishes. Furthermore, the former president mentioned the scarcity of choice options and the difficulty in identifying the sophisticated dishes served.

“Outside, the food in palaces isn’t like that,” Lula said during the broadcast.

Squid also emphasized his preference for typical Brazilian dishes, such as oxtail, chicken and fried pork ribs, highlighting the difficulty of finding these options during his trips abroad.

“I can’t get used to it. I need quantity. It may be sweet [the right word would be gulodice] on my part, but I like quantity, an oxtail, a chicken, a chicken with okra, a fried pork chop... There's nothing better. And we don't find many of these things out there. Everything is very sophisticated there and, sometimes, we don’t even know what it is,” added Lula on live.
