Ryanair is certainly one of the companies that, for one reason or another, always gives people something to talk about.

The airline – loved by some and hated by others – will implement a new internal rule from May 2025: passengers who do not arrive at the boarding gate 40 minutes in advance may receive a fine.

The measure, according to the company low cost options, aims to avoid delays in boarding and take-off, as well as making the process more efficient. Ryanair wants to ensure that all customers are ready at the scheduled time, reducing the disruption caused by individual delays.

The new “40-minute rule” is in addition to other recent changes adopted by the company, such as the mandatory digital boarding pass — available only through the Ryanair app or official website — and stricter control over the size of hand luggage, which must measure a maximum of 40x20x25 cm, equivalent to a small backpack.
