On November 18 and 19, Rio de Janeiro will host the G20 summit, bringing together 55 leaders of countries and heads of international organizations. Among the bilateral meetings planned, one of the highlights will be the meeting between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni.
At the center of the agenda are issues involving the granting of Enel, an Italian state-owned company responsible for distributing electricity in São Paulo.
Recently, Meloni apologized to Lula for the operational failures that resulted in blackouts in the capital of São Paulo.
This request was made during the G7 meeting in June, after the Brazilian president personally demanded a solution from Meloni herself and the president of Enel, Flavio Cattaneo.
In addition to Enel, Lula's meeting with Meloni will address the agreement Mercosur-European Union, with Italy interested in consolidating itself as a gateway for Brazilian exports to the European continent.
Another relevant topic is the negotiation for the acquisition of 24 M-346 light combat aircraft by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), in addition to six additional units for the Navy.
The fighters, which are to be equipped with electronic systems and weapons manufactured in Brazil, appear as modern and affordable replacements for the old AMX, also the result of cooperation between Brazil and Italy. This initiative would complement the Swedish Gripen fighters already in operation by the FAB.
