A Luiss Guido Carli University, from Rome, created scholarships aimed at Italian-Brazilians to reconnect with the Italians who emigrated to the South American country and their descendants.
In an interview with ANSA in São Paulo, the institution's pro-rector for internationalization, Raffaele Marchetti, said that the scholarships are valid for the academic year that begins in September and cover areas such as economics, business, political science and law.
"These scholarships are reserved not for students who have an Italian passport, but rather for students of Italian origin," he explained. In other words, it is not necessary to have recognized dual citizenship to apply.
“The student needs to justify himself in some way, but we are not the police, we trust,” said Marchetti, adding that this is an “important instrument to reconnect” Italy with the Italian-Brazilian community.
The pro-rector defined Brazil as “strategic” for Luiss, one of the most renowned private universities in Italy.
“Brazil is one of the largest economies in the world, one of the main actors in international politics and has the largest community of Italian origins in the world”, he declared.
The scholarships were announced as part of Marchetti's mission to Brazil and Argentina to strengthen relations with Latin America. The dean has already visited Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Curitiba and will visit Buenos Aires next week. (Handle)
