Uber is a service that has been controversial in various parts of the world. The newest comes from Italy, where the service was banned from operating after a sentence handed down by a court. According to the agency Reuters, the lawsuit filed by the largest taxi association in the European country resulted in a court ruling against the ride-sharing app.
When delivering the decision, the judge states that Uber practices unfair competition in Italy, therefore, it is prohibited from operating with any of the categories previously available in the country — UberBLACK, UberLUX, UberSUV, UberX, UberXL, UberSELECT and UberVAN.
In a statement, the Italian section of Uber said it was “shocked” by the court’s decision and promised to appeal.
Taxi drivers strike
The Italian court's decision comes almost a month after a taxi drivers' strike in Italy in protest against Uber. There were six days of stoppage in which drivers complained, for example, about the fact that they were forced to drive with a fixed fare, while Uber did not need to follow any dictates in this regard, always charging whatever they wanted.
