The Second Criminal Section of the Turin Court of Appeals rejected, this Friday, the 30th, the extradition request made by Brazil for Pablo Daniel Castro. Italian citizen convicted of sexual crimes against a minor. The decision was based on the conditions considered precarious and inhumane in the Brazilian prison system.
Castro, 47 years old, born in Buenos AiresHe was sentenced on July 26, 2024, to 15 years and 11 months in prison by the Court of Belo Horizonte, in Minas Gerais. The crimes occurred in November 2015.
The defendant was arrested on July 1, 2025, in Pragelato, in the province of Turin, pursuant to an international arrest warrant. From the beginning of the proceedings, he opposed extradition, a position supported by his lawyers Alexandro Maria Tirelli and Francesca Monticone.
Despite the existence of a bilateral treaty In the extradition proceedings between Italy and Brazil, Italian judges demanded detailed information about the prison unit where the defendant would serve his sentence. Among the requested data were cell dimensions, type of furniture, sanitary conditions, and access to activities for inmates.
The 70-day deadline for a response has expired. without the Brazilian government sending the requested information. Therefore, the court relied on reports from international entities, such as UNHCR and United Nations committees, as well as decisions from the Brazilian Supreme Court of Justice, which acknowledge situations of degrading treatment in the prison system.
Based on these grounds, the Turin Court decided to reject the extradition request. The Italian Public Prosecutor's Office had argued in favor of extraditing the defendant to Brazil.
According to the Ansa news agency, after the verdict, Castro was released, but remains prohibited from leaving Italian territory.
According to lawyer Alexandro Maria Tirelli, the decision represents a milestone. “The Turin decision marks a new step in judicial cooperation between Italy and Brazil. The recognition of the serious deficiencies in the Brazilian prison system, even if based on a specific case, is destined to have a structural impact on cooperation relations. It is, in every respect, a turning point,” he stated.

Released from prison? What kind of deal is this that only benefits one side? Why not uphold the conviction and put him back in jail? A convicted criminal, a pedophile! Now, law-abiding citizens are condemned to live with this man roaming the streets, who will surely create new victims.
