The 55 year old woman accused of running a false dating scam on Italian volleyball player Roberto Cazzaniga for 15 years, aged 42, carried out a complete renovation of a property in Sardinia, an island in the Mediterranean Sea, as her neighbors reported to the newspaper “La nuova sardegna".
According to the report, the work was carried out in 2017 in the house where Valeria Satta lives in Frutti d'oro, a village in Capoterra near Cagliari, with “floors, lamps, bathrooms, windows: everything new”.

Through the scam known as cat fishing, Valeria allegedly extorted 700 euros (R$4,3 million) from the alteta by identifying herself as Maya, but using photos of the Brazilian model Alessandra Ambrosio. Neighbors believe that Valeria, unemployed and with two children, used Roberto's money to renovate the house.
As revealed by the program “Le Iene”, on the broadcaster “Mediaset”, the embezzler was acting under the pretext of suffering heart problems, justifying her need for the money for hospital expenses.
Faced with the truth, Roberto reported his fake girlfriend to the police. According to the local press, the case will be forwarded to the Public Prosecutor's Office, which remains to be decided whether the investigation will be carried out in the commune of Cagliari, in Sardinia, or in the city where the victim lives.
Friend creates crowdfunding to help Roberto pay off debts
Roberto's relatives and friends try to help him get back on his feet, both emotionally and financially.
The athlete even took out loans to send the money to the embezzler, leaving him with debts of 60 thousand euros. Thus, a friend of his and former teammate, called Danilo Rinaldi, created on the 24th a online fundraising on the GoFundMe website. To date, more than 12 thousand euros have been raised.
Furthermore, Roberto hosted a party from his friends and relatives on the court where he plays to cheer him up.
“Roberto is a good and very fragile person who trusted the wrong people. At first, it wasn't easy... after 15 years. He was very sad, but now he is slowly feeling better. Of course, after all this media reaction, he feels a lot of disbelief, but he just needs more time to realize (what happened) and start again, with a new life. I created the GoFundMe campaign to help Roberto after this sad story. Nobody is going to give him back the last 15 years, but together we can do something for his future”, said the friend Rinaldi.
