Italy closes 2nd quarter with record occupancy rate

The unemployment rate in Italy fell to 6,8% in the second quarter of 2024, a drop of 0,3 percentage points compared to the previous three months, while the employment index rose 0,2 points and reached 62,2%, a record in the historical series.

The data was released on Thursday (12) by the National Statistics Institute (Istat), which said that the unemployment rate between April and June is the lowest for a quarterly period since the third quarter of 2008 (6,7%), immediately before the euro crisis.

The inactivity rate among the population aged 15 to 64 remained stable at 33,1%, according to Istat, which also released the provisional unemployment rate for the month of July, 6,5%, a drop of 0,4 points compared to June and the lowest monthly figure since March 2008.
