Italy ranked last among five countries evaluated in the "State of Kindness in Europe" survey, conducted in October 2025 by Sanrio and YouGov. The study measured the presence and impact of acts of kindness in daily life in Italy, Spain, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, and was released on November 13th. World Kindness.
The survey showed that 71% of Europeans reported experiencing an act of kindness in the past week. Among Italians, the rate was 69%. The research indicates that small gestures remain essential for emotional well-being and influence people's daily mood.
The data reveals Spain as the kindest country, with 76%. The United Kingdom appears with 71%, followed by France and Germany tied at 70%. Italy closes the list with 69%. Even so, 95% of Italians stated that they associate kindness with positive emotions.
The research identified a characteristic trait of the Italian population: kindness, which is related to a genuine concern for the emotional well-being of others.
This behavior is expressed through empathy, listening, and constant presence in relationships. Among the most cited gestures are giving compliments (55%), offering support during difficult times (54%), and asking how the person is doing (53%).
Women appear to be the most attentive to emotions and care in relationships. Another noteworthy finding is that, for Italians, family and friends are the primary recipients of kind gestures, both accounting for 43% of responses.
