Movement is inspired by Brexit and seeks independence for the country.
Italian senator Gianluigi Paragone created the Italexit movement, similar to Brexit of the United Kingdom, which aims to remove the country from the European Union (EU).
According to the news agency Reuters, the senator consulted Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage before announcing the formation of the movement for Italy to leave the EU.
"We can no longer succumb to blackmail from countries that offend Italy's prestige”, said the politician after meeting with Farage, in London.
Paragone's position comes after the EU advanced an agreement to launch a 750 million euro economic recovery fund for the post-covid crisis.
Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte detailed that 28% of the funds – almost 210 billion euros – will go to Italy in the form of grants and loans.
O Euro-skepticism arrived in Italy, but, so far, no movement has managed to gain strength and gather the votes of the most discontented voters on a large scale.
It is worth remembering that Paragone left the 5 Star movement, which currently runs the country together with the pro-European Democratic Party (PD).
