The government of the state of São Paulo will launch on April 15th a tourist guide in honor of 150 years of Italian immigration in Brazil.
The project, carried out by the Secretariat of Tourism and Travel with institutional support from the Italian Tourism Agency (Enit), consulate-General of Italy in São Paulo and the State Secretariat for International Business, will be presented at the WTM Latin America fair, in the capital of São Paulo.
Called “Root Tourism – Italian Culture”, the guide brings together tourist and gastronomic attractions, themed itineraries, curiosities and more than 30 events that incorporate the legacy left by immigrants from Italy in several municipalities in the state.
“The presence of Italian culture is remarkable in all areas, there are 13 million descendants in São Paulo alone”, says Roberto de Lucena, state secretary of Tourism and Travel. Among the attractions listed in the guide are the Achiropita festival, which attracts thousands of people a year to the Bixiga neighborhood, in the capital of São Paulo, the Italian Institute of Culture of São Paulo and the Immigration Museum, located in the old inn where they visited hundreds of thousands of Italians.
Other highlights are the Memorial of the Italian Immigrant Tuto Gasparini, in Vinhedo, which appears on the cover of the publication, the city of Pedrinhas Paulista, with several monuments in honor of Rome, and the replica of the Trevi Fountain in Serra Negra, in addition to numerous Italian culture and gastronomy festivals throughout the interior of São Paulo.
