According to the AISE news agency, the municipality of Grassano, in the province of Matera, will hold the first edition of the Grassanesi nel Mondo Award on August 11th, at Piazza Purgatorio, starting at 21 pm (Italian time). The event is part of the Giornata dell'Emigrante 2026 and is organized in partnership with Mondi Lucani APS. The theme of this edition is medicine, and three professionals will be honored: Michele Giovanni Lopergolo, thoracic surgeon at the San Camillo Forlanini Hospital; Antonio Marchetta, rheumatologist at the Sacro Cuore Don Calabria Hospital in Negrar (Verona); and Francesco Santoro, cardiologist at the Riuniti Polyclinic in Foggia.

The ceremony will be attended by the Secretary of Health of Basilicata, Cosimo Latronico, and the President of the Province of Matera, Francesco Mancini.
