The Italian government of Giorgia Meloni refused to back down and declared that it does not accept ultimatums or external impositions on matters of national security. Rome is maintaining the suspension at least until August 15th, a date indicated on Moroccan social media as a possible new attempt to enter Ceuta and Melilla, a warning that Spanish authorities themselves have deemed credible. Madrid considers the Italian measure unfair, discriminatory, and contrary to the interests of the European Union.
