According to Sky TG24, more than 25 million vehicles are expected to travel on Italian roads and highways over the weekend of August 8th and 9th, marking the start of the holiday exodus preceding Ferragosto. Saturday has been classified as a maximum alert day, with the worst congestion expected between the morning and early afternoon. The data was confirmed by Viabilità Italia and the Road Mobility Observatory of the FS Group.
To mitigate the impacts, ANA (the Portuguese National Agency for Waterway Transportation) mobilized approximately 2.500 technicians and operators nationwide. Managing Director Claudio Andrea Gemme urged caution regarding speed limits: “Safety must guide every journey.” As of September 7th, 1.175 construction sites had been closed or suspended, representing 83% of active operations. In the Upper Adriatic region, over 200 crossings are expected, with the Trieste Lisert barrier, providing access to Slovenia and Croatia, accounting for nearly 29 departures.
