The Italian documentary “Earth Protectors”, directed by French artist Anne de Carbuccia, was selected to participate in Ecocine, the International Festival of Environmental Cinema and Human Rights, in Brazil.
The production follows the work of young people who are transforming the planet in an attempt to save it and addresses the need for awareness about the planet's environmental direction.
The highlights are Lili in Yucatan, Tashi in Mustang, Dasha in Siberia, Mariasole in Italy, Alexandria in New York and Jared in the Peruvian Amazon. The young people form the collective “The Protectors of the Earth” to combat droughts, protect reefs, help climate refugees and defend the Amazon, as well as contribute to creating a new system.
The film is produced by the One Planet One Future foundation, a public charity based in New York and Milan, and will be available for free until December 16th on official site.
In addition to the “Earth Protectors”, the film also features conversations between Anne and scientist and oceanographer Julie Pullen.
According to Carbuccia, the concept of “Protectors of Planet Earth” emerged gradually. “I started visiting more and more remote places that are almost impossible to reach without a local resident or a guide: you have to be invited or have good contacts there.
I would meet people at my exhibitions or someone would see the art and then invite me to their country. That’s how I created this unique network of friends and allies.” She explains that the more she traveled, the more she encountered these remarkable people doing challenging and innovative things in often extreme environments. “Without them I would never have created my art in those faraway lands.
Through these experiences, a pattern began to take shape: the lives of these young people who loved their region and culture and acted to protect it. Their stories became bigger than the single narrative of art. They were also such a positive example to me that I decided they could be for others as well,” he concluded.HANDLE)
