The film “Parthenope”, by Paolo Sorrentino, is the highest-grossing Italian drama since the Covid-19 pandemic, after its premiere in cinemas from Italy last weekend.

The Neapolitan director's feature film grossed 1,9 million euros (R$11,8 million) in its first weekend of showing in almost 530 theaters and 3,6 cinemas, which, if added to the pre-release receipts, exceeds 2 million euros (R$74 million), placing it in second place in the ranking of the most watched films over the weekend in the Belpaese, right after “Venom 3: The Last Round”, by Kelly Marcel.

Sorrentino's film is a fantasy drama that tells the life story of a Neapolitan woman, from her youth to her years adrift as an adult. The film is described as a work "focused on people's perception of places and themselves, as well as the director's lost youth."

“Parthenope” stars Celeste Dalla Porta, Luisa Ranieri, Stefania Sandrelli, Gary Oldman and Beppe Lanzetta. (HANDLE)
