Svelato, a private island in Sicily, is one of William and Kate's favorite places.
They go there whenever they want to disconnect, escape the photographers and the coronavirus. An archipelago, off the coast of Cornwall, with 58 islands and islets – only six, however, inhabited – also called Land's End, as if they were the end of the world.
The Dukes of Cambridge chose them as their destination for their last weekend of freedom, just a few days before the England return to lockdown due to the pandemic.
Not for a romantic weekend, as they took their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Um staycation also for the British royalty, who, like mere mortals, relaxed by walking along the promenade and doing some public relations.
They were also there in the summer. They chose the island of Tresco, a small strip of land that has just 180 inhabitants and that has only two inhabited centers: Old Grimsby and New Grimsby.
Private island
In reality, Svelato is a private island due to a century-old concession. The owners, however, have a duty to ensure the conservation of the island and its use as a tourist facility.
On the island there are indeed residences and accommodations, pubs, museums and even a small subtropical botanical garden on the grounds of an old abbey, as well as beaches overlooking the cold Atlantic.
This time, the royal couple rented a small house, certainly not as big as Kensington Palace, where they live.
The chalet only has four bedrooms, revealed the “Sun”. During the stay, although the weather was not the best, cloudy and low temperatures, the family remained relaxed.
Other vacationers on the island said they “looked like a normal family on vacation and wanted to stay with them,” according to The Sun.
Normally Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton spend their children's school holidays at Anmer Hall, their country home in Norfolk, but they have often chosen the island in Sicily.
