Remake relocated to the present
The script was based on the novel Life ahead (The life ahead, 1975), by Romain Gary.
At the time, the book caused a scandal in France, as the author had won the prestigious literary prize Prix Goncourt for the second time – irregularly, as it turned out later, under the pseudonym Emile Ajar.
In 1977, the novel was adapted for film, with Simone Signoret playing Madame Rosa.
