The Italian singer Laura Pausini released the album I Canto 2 Featuring versions of Italian and Brazilian songs, the project also marks the artist's first stadium performance in Brazil, scheduled for March 2027.
Since 1993, when she first came to the country, Laura has maintained a strong bond with Brazil. "I'm certain that in another incarnation I was Brazilian. I'm the most Brazilian Italian," she stated in an interview with Estadão, speaking fluent Portuguese.
Re-recordings in Portuguese
The new album's first single is a cover version of the song. Who of Us Two, composed by Ana Carolina and Dudu Falcão. The song is an adaptation of the Italian My story between my fingers, originally released in 1994.
Laura recorded two versions of the song: a solo version, which had a music video, and another featuring Ana Carolina and the singer Ferrugem. According to Laura, Ana is an artist "with a unique vocal timbre" and Ferrugem has "the ability to enter a song and devour it."
The singer discovered Ferrugem while searching for new Brazilian artists on digital platforms.
Italian classics revisited
I Canto 2 This continues the project begun in 2006, in which Laura presents classics of Italian music to a worldwide audience. The current selection includes A Sense, by Vasco Rossi, and Ritorno ad Amare, by Biagio Antonacci. The oldest track is Il Cielo in una Stanza, by Gino Paoli, also recorded in Portuguese and English.
The album also pays homage to Ornella Vanoni (1934–2025), who had strong ties to Brazil. Laura re-recorded Details, Italian version of Details, a hit song by Roberto Carlos and Erasmo Carlos.
Other versions and influences
Among the re-recordings is The beautiful island, by Madonna, an artist of Italian descent who composed for Laura in 2004. Another highlight is Já Sei Namorar , by Marisa Monte, Arnaldo Antunes and Carlinhos Brown. The singer cited Marisa's Italian origin as one of the motivations for the choice.
The album's visual style was inspired by the figure of Joan of Arc. Laura appears as a warrior in the promotional photos and music videos. "I fight for what is right, just like Joan of Arc. But my weapon is my voice," she stated.
The launch of I Canto 2 It also marks the announcement of Laura Pausini's first concert in a Brazilian stadium. The performance is scheduled for... March 2027, at the Mercado Livre Pacaembu Arena, in São Paulo.
