The town of Trieste, capital of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region in northeastern Italy, is among the 10 destinations in the world that should be a tourist trend in 2025.
The list also mentions the capital of Paraíba, João Pessoa.
The ranking, prepared by Booking.com, analyzed the platform's data to identify places that are little sought after but surprising, ready to become spots for next year's vacations.
And Trieste lives up to its name. With just over 200 inhabitants, the historic port city is home to unique architecture, with Austro-Hungarian and Slovenian influences, as well as numerous literary cafés.
The Friulian capital is still seen as a trendsetter for “night tourism”: 62% of Italian travelers have considered destinations with less light pollution and Trieste offers unique opportunities to observe natural phenomena in its sky, such as the Northern Lights.
The same index also reveals that tourists from Italy (62%) are willing to pay for places that offer well-being and quality of life options, such as the thermal waters of Sorgenti Timavo, near Trieste, on the border with Slovenia.
Booking.com also reports that searches for the capital on the platform have increased in Austria (+156%), Serbia (+1630%), Croatia (+1313%) and Australia (+598%).
With a landscape between the coast and karst rocks, Trieste's popularity has also increased among adventurers (+404%), followed by couples (+399%) and families (+269%).
