President of France classified the attack as “Islamic terrorism”
The 21-year-old Tunisian terrorist, who killed three people in the Notre-Dame de Nice basilica, arrived in Europe via the Italian island of Lampedusa in September, on a refugee boat, according to sources close to the investigation.
The young man, who had been in France since early October, was identified by the source as Brahim Aoussaoui. He reportedly arrived in Italy at the end of September and was placed in quarantine before being forced to leave Italian territory.
The information is from the newspaper Corriere della Sera.
The attack
French President Emmanuel Macron described as “an Islamic terrorist attack” the attack that occurred this Thursday morning (29) in a church in Nice, in the southeast of the country, which caused three deaths and announced an increase in military measures to protect the country.
“We will no longer give in,” said Macron, in a statement at the scene of the attack, in which he also announced that the military security system will increase from 3.000 to 7.000 soldiers in the country.
The increased military presence in the country “will make it possible to protect places of worship” during the festivities of All Saints' Day, celebrated as a public holiday (1 November), and schools, following the return to school after the autumn holidays, which will take place from next week, added the French President.
