The Italian Institute of Culture (IIC) of Rio de Janeiro opens this Thursday (15) the festival “Cineforum IICRio: The Best of Italian cinema".
The purpose of the event is to present to the public a special selection of contemporary Made in Italy films, with subtitles in Portuguese.
The sessions are free and take place every fortnight, at 18:30 pm (except on August 29th, when it will be at 18 pm), at the IIC headquarters in Rio.
The film that opens the activity is “The Strange Comedy of Life”, by Roberto Andò. Released in 2022 and set in Sicily in the 1920s, the work explores the world of theater and creativity and has as its protagonist the internationally recognized local playwright Luigi Pirandello (1867-1936).
Played by Toni Servillo, the playwright returns to his homeland for a celebration. There, he meets two eccentric gravediggers, Onofrio and Sebastiano, who are preparing an amateur theater play. The meeting becomes the starting point for a deep reflection on the meaning of art, fiction and reality.
A fellow countryman of Pirandello, Andò is known for his ability to explore complex themes and intertwine reality and fiction, creating human and reflective stories. (HANDLE)
