O Italian Film Festival released this Wednesday (9) the list of the first unreleased films of its 19th edition, which will take place between November 7th and December 8th and will also provide a retrospective on the humor of the seventh art in different regions of Brazil and via streaming.

In addition to the selection of works, which includes the documentary “Toquinho: Encontros e um guitarra”, directed by Erica Bernardini and chosen by the Italian Embassy to celebrate 150 years of Italian Immigration in Brazil, the official poster and manifesto of the festival were also revealed, which celebrate the strength and independence of contemporary women.

In total, the list includes 12 new films, including the comedy that recorded the highest box office in Italy in 2024, “A World Apart”, by Riccardo Milani, husband of actress and filmmaker Paola Cortellesi.

The selection also includes the drama “We Were Children”, by Marco Martani, which tells a touching story about friendship and revenge, and the feature film “Romeo and Juliet”, by Giovanni Veronesi, which follows the trajectory of a young actress who assumes a male identity to play the role of Romeo.

Highlights include “Caracas”, the second film directed by actor Marco D'Amore, an adaptation of the novel “Napoli Ferrovia”, by Ermanno Rea, and “Nascida para você”, by Fabio Mollo, based on the true story of Luca Trapanese.

The festival will also exclusively present the recently completed “Hey Joe”, by Claudio Giovannesi; “Mia”, by Ivano De Matteo; “Penitente”, directed by Luca Barbareschi; “What if my father”, by debut director Solange Tonnini, in which a 12-year-old girl decides to investigate the enigmas behind her father’s absence and discovers unexpected family secrets; in addition to the feature films “A alma em paz”, by Ciro Formisano; and “Laf”, by Michele Riondino.

The special highlight of this edition will be the tribute to Italian director Matteo Garrone, with the screening of the feature film “Io, Capitano” (“I, Captain”, in Portuguese). Although it is not a new film in Brazilian cinemas, the production is relevant especially after having won the Silver Lion in Venice. (HANDLE)
