Priest murdered in northern Italy: he gave his life for the excluded
The town of Just like, in northern Italy, is in shock. A priest was stabbed and killed this Tuesday (15) for a Tunisian immigrant, in a city square.
According to local police, Roberto Malgesini, 51 years old, was stabbed in the morning in Piazza San Rocco. As signs of mental problems, the 53-year-old immigrant surrendered to the police after the crime.
The priest was known in Como for his commitment to the city's most needy.. The priest brought breakfast to the homeless and met some of their needs. The religious man lived a few steps from the place where he was murdered.
The police reported that the priest was killed shortly after starting his round of distributing breakfasts.
According to Italian news agencies, Don Malgesini's killer is a member of the police and there was already a request for expulsion from Italy against him, but which was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
At a rally in Bondeno, in the Emilia-Romagna region, former Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini commented on the case.
“At 7 am, a parish priest was stabbed to death by one of the illegal migrants who are illegally staying in this country and who should be sent home. Dom Roberto stopped living because there was someone who had no right to be in Italy,” said Salvini.
As he experienced a similar event in 1999. On Ponte Chiasso, the parish priest Renzo Beretta was stabbed to death by a migrant he welcomed.
