Giuseppe Conte participated in Confindustria event
The Prime Minister of Italy, Giuseppe Conte, once again defended his government's decisions during the height of the new coronavirus (Sars-CoV-2) pandemic in a speech given at the assembly of the General Confederation of Italian Industry (Confindustria) this Tuesday (29).
“In Italy, we immediately understood that it would have been impossible to solve the problem of protecting the productive fabric while neglecting people's health. We understood this since the workers refused to enter the factories, and we weren't even in lockdown. We understand a fundamental principle: you cannot protect the economy without protecting the health and safety of citizens“, he told those present.
The premier also said that “everyone can make an individual analysis” of the actions adopted during the last few months to face the Covid-19 health crisis, but that he considers “that the government managed to mitigate the impact of the emergency with an unprecedented mobilization of resources”.
Work together
Conte once again defended the recovery program proposed by the government for the post-lockdown period and for the resumption of growth, but asked that everyone must “work together” to overcome this “enormous challenge” that currently presents itself. The premier also detailed parts of the project and the reforms he intends to carry out at the head of the government to provide more “transparency” to the process.
The president of the Confindustria, Carlo Bonomi, praised the “openness” given by Conte to debate the paths for the recovery and strengthening of the national industry and proposed a “new great pact for Italy" for "we can achieve new productivity".
To this end, Bonomi handed the premier and other government representatives who were at the event a document with 385 pages of proposals for the resumption. Called “The courage of the future – Italy 2030-2050”, the texts detail “our vision of the country and describe in detail all the proposals and measures” we made.
Italy experienced a period of total lockdown of non-essential services between March 10 and May. Since then, the gradual reopening has resulted in more cases of the new coronavirus, but in smaller quantities. considered quite controlled – especially when compared to neighboring countries.
