Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Ita, this Sunday (7), to denounce racist acts and police repression around the world.

Em Rome, a spontaneous demonstration emerged in the famous Piazza del Popolo, with thousands of young people kneeling in silence with their fists raised, for almost nine minutes.

It was during this time that the officer kept his knee pressed on Floyd's neck until he suffocated.

When the protesters stood up, they also shouted: “I can’t breathe!”

Michael Taylor, an African immigrant from Botswana, attended with his entire family.

“I am a white African and sometimes I feel fear and contempt just because I am a foreigner,” he told the news agency AFP. “Imagine what things would be like if I were black,” he added.

“It’s really difficult to live here,” said Morikeba Samate, a 32-year-old Senegalese, one of tens of thousands of migrants who have reached Italy after a perilous journey across the Mediterranean.

“They think we’re all thieves,” he complained.

The outrage that led thousands of Americans to take to the streets after the murder of George Floyd on May 25 in the USA is gradually spreading across the world.
