Only 23% think the opposition would do better. Italy is currently run by the center left
Italians would not like the opposition to manage the new wave of Coronavirus infections. This is what the most recent research carried out by Ipsos, last week.
Those interviewed by the institute prefer the current government, believing that other (right-wing) parties would not manage the epidemic better.
Only 23% think the opposition would do better, while 51% believe it is better if the current (center-left) government continues to operate to prevent an exponential growth in infections.
Furthermore, a majority – albeit small – of Italians say they are in favor of a new lockdown if infections continue to rise.
In particular, 46% say they are in favor of tough measures in case of an increase in infections, while 44% say they are against. 10% did not know how to answer.
In any case, 61% of those interviewed believe that there will be no new lockdown, while 29% think that a new total closure will be necessary.
For a good part of Italians, however, a new lockdown could be unbearable. 30% of those interviewed, in fact, say that their family would not be able to support a new lockdown in Italy from an economic point of view.
61% of the sample is more optimistic but believes it can withstand another lockdown. The remaining 9% did not respond.
Fear of contaminating family members
Speaking in general about the emergency of the new coronavirus, the aspect of Covid that scares Italians most seems to be the risk of infecting loved ones, especially if they are elderly or at risk, according to what was answered by 45% of voters.
28% are worried about the risk of contracting the disease, 10% about the quarantine and 7% about the fear of losing their income and savings.
Finally, with regard to the penalties applied to those who do not wear a mask in public places, 47% believe that they should be more severe, while 39% consider that the existing fines are valid.
Only 6% think that sanctions should be reduced or even eliminated.
The research, commissioned by Itv Movie, was held on October 5, 2020.
