Starting this Thursday (3), all eligible Italians will be able to schedule an anti-Covid vaccination.
The rules vary in each area, with some governments allowing teenagers over 12 and others for those over 16.
A Lombardia, the region most affected by the health crisis and also the most populous, has already had almost 400 thousand registrations of requests for immunization, with 232,8 thousand in the age group between 20 and 29; 120,4 thousand between 16 and 20 years old; and 42,2 thousand between 12 and 16 years old.
According to information from the extraordinary commissioner for combating the pandemic, more than 2,5 million vaccines will arrive in the country this week, in addition to the 3,5 million doses from Pfizer/BioNTech that are already being distributed.
35,8 million doses have already been applied
A latest update from the Ministry of Health shows that Italy has already administered 35,8 million doses of the four vaccines used – Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, Oxford/AstraZeneca and Janssen. Almost 12,4 million citizens have completed the immunization cycle, which represents 22,85% of the population over 12 years of age.
Despite the expansion, the emergency commissioner, Francesco Figliuolo, warned that many elderly people over 60 have not yet been vaccinated, not even with the first dose.
“At this moment, in relation to this audience, there are still 2,17 million missing, there are still many. Good work is already being done, but we need to increase this percentage. We need to think about people who are not educated from a technology perspective. I asked the regions to look for them, whether through their mobile teams or Civil Defense”, added the commissioner.
To also try to speed up vaccination, the government is seeking to expand the almost three thousand immunization points, forming partnerships with pharmacies, medical clinics, in addition to so-called family doctors. (Loop)
