Foreign citizens own 11% of companies registered in Italy, totaling 659.709, according to official figures released on Monday (1st).

The figure refers to December 31, 2023 and, according to the Chambers of Commerce Business Register, represents an increase of 2% compared to 2022 and 7% compared to 2019.

According to the report, 34% of immigrant-owned firms belong to Romanian, Chinese or Moroccan citizens, mainly in the provinces of Florence, Turin, Cremona, Fermo, Prato and Viterbo.

“The contribution made to the Italian economy by foreign entrepreneurs is even more appreciated and necessary given the demographic trend in our country, a problem for which there is no solution in the short term”, said Andrea Prete, president of Unioncamere, representative of the chambers of commerce in Italy.

In 2023, the country recorded the lowest number of births since its unification, with just 379 thousand, 14 thousand less than the previous year. (HANDLE).
