Do you know Palmanova? Find out why it is considered the star city

The city of Palmanova, in Italy, has a special touch. Understand why it is considered the star city

The city of Estrela has already been considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Have you ever heard of the city of Palmanova? It is a small city located in northern Italy, in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia, in the district of Udine. If you don't know it, you certainly know its famous neighbor: Veneza, located 111 km from the small town.

Palmanova was built around 1500 and to this day it has around 5 thousand inhabitants, if it weren't for its architectural form from an aerial view, perhaps it would be just one of the many charming small European cities.

However, the small European city draws a lot of attention because it was built with intention: in the shape of a star with nine points and only three exits. The city is completely walled, and has remained preserved over time.

star city architecture

Palmanova was designed by the artist and architect Vincenzo Scamozzi and has several peculiarities that few people know about. The city's format was not always accepted. At the time of construction, people considered the star shape of the city to be uninhabitable.

Thus, it was only in 1622 that the city was actually inhabited and the occupation was not free but forced. Venice suffered decadence, and was forced to pardon many criminals, so it ended up offering lots in Palmanova as a reward.
