Saturday, May 23: demonstration, museums and beaches
Trade unions are holding a major national demonstration in Rome against the Meloni government's public spending policies. Thousands of people are expected in the city center, with street closures and bus routes rerouted.
On the same day, the European Night of Museums takes place. State museums and some private ones stay open until after midnight throughout Italy. Some institutions organize special events and open spaces that are normally closed to the public. Entry is free or costs a symbolic amount.
In Puglia, Saturday marks the official opening of the beach season, one of the last Italian regions to begin its summer bathing season.
Sunday, May 24: Vogalonga and petals at the Pantheon
Venice hosts VogalongaThis is a non-competitive regatta held since 1974. More than 1.800 boats of various nationalities travel 30 kilometers through the city's canals. The event is open to anyone who wants to row, but registrations fill up quickly. Those who do not participate can watch freely from the banks, at no cost.

In Rome, the Pantheon hosts the traditional Pentecost celebration. After the 10:30 am mass, thousands of red rose petals are released through the circular opening in the monument's ceiling and spiral down to the floor.
