Unemployment rate among young people is 32,6%
It's not all pasta and pizza in Italy. The country recorded an unemployment rate of 10,9% last June, an increase of 0,2 percentage points compared to the previous month, according to data released on Tuesday (31) by the National Institute of Statistics (Istat).
During the period, the number of unemployed people in the country was 2,86 million people. The unemployment rate among young people aged 15 to 24 rose 0,5 points in June and reached 32,6%. Amid this scenario, the number of employees with fixed-term contracts reached a record of 3,105 million citizens (+16 thousand).
This shows that many stable jobs (-49 thousand) are migrating to precarious jobs, confirming a trend registered since Matteo Renzi's labor reform, in force since June 2015.
Recently, the government approved the so-called “dignity decree”, which increases compensation for unfair dismissals by 50% and reduces the maximum duration of temporary contracts from 36 to 24 months, with the possibility of renewal for another year, from indicating the reason.
For comparative purposes, in Brazil, the unemployment rate fell to 12,7% in the quarter ended in May. This means that 13,2 million people are unemployed in the country. The data was released on Friday (29) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), through the Pnad Contínua survey.
