Santa Catarina is hosting an Italian delegation that is visiting cities in the state to strengthen cultural and historical ties between Brazil and Italy. The visit takes place in the context of the 150th anniversary of Italian immigration to the country and includes meetings with local authorities and participation in cultural events.
The delegation began its journey in Big Stones, passing through Orleans, Urussanga and Siderópolis. The arrival in Nova Veneza will take place this Wednesday, February 19th. In each city, ceremonies and debates on bilateral cooperation will be held, in addition to the delivery of official documents between Brazilian and Italian representatives.
Events and tributes
In Siderópolis, the Culture and Tourism advisor, Arisson Fabricio Nunes, delivered a letter to the vice-mayor of Belluno, Irene Gallon, suggesting dates for the renewal of the Friendship Pact between the sister cities. The ceremony could take place in July, during the celebrations of Italian Immigration Day, or in August, during the Colonist Festival.
The visit to Siderópolis was marked by a reception at Piazza Nova Belluno, with a musical performance by Isabeli Morro, who sang classics of Italian music, including "Mérica, Mérica".
Delegation's agenda
The Italian representatives will continue their trip to other cities in Santa Catarina, including Laguna, Tubarão, Treviso, Morro Grande and Florianópolis.
One of the most anticipated moments will be the visit to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Caravaggio, on the morning of this Wednesday.
Language, culture and history
The program also includes literary launches. Last Saturday, February 15, the book “Antonio Segreto” by Nicola Vegro was presented, which retells the story of Saint Anthony of Padua from a historical and documentary perspective. The work explores not only religion, but also the political and social context of the Middle Ages.
The delegation will remain in Brazil until February 26, promoting the strengthening of relations between the Italian communities and descendants who helped shape the Santa Catarina culture.
