The only two Italian cities that appear in the 2021 ranking of Mercer Cost of LivingAmong the most expensive cities to live in are Milan and Rome.
The Lombard capital, considered the heart of the Italian economy, and the capital of Italy occupy 36th and 47th place respectively.
In 2020, the Lombard capital occupied 47th position, a place occupied by Rome. Which in 2020 was in 65th position.
In summary, both gained positions, a sign that from 2020 until now the cost of living in Rome and Milan has increased.
Research Mercer Cost of Living evaluated 209 cities around the world, with the focus of the study being a comparison of expenses with housing, transport, food and entertainment.
Ashgabat, in Turkmenistan, is the most expensive city in the world for foreign workers, according to the survey.
Sao Paulo, in 177th (130th, in 2020) it is the most expensive city in Brazil, followed by Rio de Janeiro, in 191st (160th, in 2020) and Brasilia 205th (190th, in 2020).
Lisbon is the only Portuguese city to enter the 209 places in the ranking, rising 23 positions compared to 2020, becoming the 83rd most expensive city for expatriates.
