Heat was recorded in satellite images this Monday (12)
The temperature recorded on the ground in some cities in Italy reached 50ºC this Sunday (11). Puglia, Sicily, Sardinia, Campania, Lazio, Tuscany and Marche were the hottest places in the country throughout the day.
Images captured by the Sentinel 3 satellite from the Copernicus program, a European climate change service, show Italy “on fire”, due to the extreme heat that hit the nation last weekend.
The photos were published on Twitter this Monday (12) by the emergency management service with the following message: “Italy is burning in the heat. It must have been a difficult day for first responders and doctors.”
On the map, the hottest regions, where the soil temperature reached 50ºC, were colored black. The places that registered 40ºC are colored red, while the coldest areas, between 35ºC and 25ºC, are painted in orange and yellow.
According to weather forecasts, between August 11th and 13th, the European country will have the hottest days of the summer, especially in the central-south regions and on the islands, with peaks in air temperatures between 39ºC and 41ºC.
According to data released by the website “3bmeteo.com”, the city with the hottest air mass will be Terni, with 41ºC, followed by Foggia (40ºC), Benevento, Cosenza and Nuoro (39ºC), Florence, Bologna, Ferrara, Forlì, Perugia, Frosinone, L'Aquila, Avezzano, Matera (38ºC), and Rome, Caserta, Potenza, Caltanissetta, Ragusa, Catania and Lecce (37ºC).
“Sunny conditions from Romagna to Sicily, with the exception of the transit of medium-high clouds during Monday between Liguria, Tuscany and Emilia, but above all we will find another increase in temperatures, expected up to a maximum of 41ºC”, explained meteorologist Francesco Del Francia.
In northern Italy, however, since last night high pressure has given way to a new disturbance in the Atlantic, which will cause storms and wind gusts between 70 and 90 kilometers per hour. The areas that will record the first rains will be Valle d'Aosta and the northwest of Piedmont, with the possibility of storms in Torinese, Biellese, Novarese, Verbano, as well as in Western Lombardy and Valtellina.
The wave of bad weather could also reach the north of Trentino and Belluno this Monday (12) and head to the low plains of Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna from tomorrow (13).
Between the 14th and 16th of August, meteorologists still indicate that the Azores anticyclone should return to the country and cause more hot days, but without excess. (ANSA)
