the deputy Fabio Porta released a message to Italian communities abroad by Republic Day, celebrated on June 2nd. The text is addressed especially to Italians living in South America.

In the message, the parliamentarian defines June 2th, 1946 as a founding date in Italian national history. According to him, at that moment the country began a democratic path based on participation, freedom, and social justice.

Porta states that the anniversary invites not only remembrance, but also a renewal of commitment to the principles that underpin civil coexistence. He quotes the president. Sergio Mattarella, for whom “the Republic lives in the value of the Costituzione and in it I participate in the city” ("The Republic lives on the values of the Constitution and the participation of citizens").

Full message (original in Italian)

“Care italiane and cari italiani in the world,

In occasion of the Festa della Repubblica I wish to return to you and to you, and in particolar to our community resident in South America, I began to feel auguri. The 2nd anniversary of 1946 represents a foundational date for our national history: in that day, with a liberated and conscientious scelta, Italy decided to establish a Republic, establishing the beginning of a new democratic path based on the value of participation, freedom and justice sociale. Contestually, for the first time, the Italian leader seriously hampered the democratic vita of the country through voting rights, contributing in a decisive way to the cost of our Republic. Avoi, che vivete e opera all'estero, e in particolare nazioni del Sud America dove la presenza italiana è così radicata e vitale, va il my più sincere ringing for the contribution that daily offrite in maintaining vivi i legami con il nostro Paese, promoting the culture, I value and the identity. La Repubblica è anche vostra: è nella vostra storia, nel vostre famiglie, nel vostro impegno. We continue closely to guard and support it, with its security in the future and with the pride of our roots. Viva la Repubblica, viva l’Italia e viva gli Italiani all’estero!”
